Myhre Group Architects was responsible for the architectural and interior design services of this existing temporary housing shelter in San Mateo, California. The remodel includes a new 1,000-square foot mezzanine for additional sleeping quarters, additional offices, and a larger meeting room. The project also adds a wheelchair lift at the main entry and additional storage in the preparation area, which includes a storage mezzanine. The goal of the design is to provide a sense of ownership and privacy for those staying at the shelter. Throughout the shelter, soothing blue, green, and neutral colors were incorporated to impart a sense of relaxation. The project contains a total of 8,500 square feet.
